Isabel Allende’s Advice to Young Writers

In writing, as in sports, "if you want to compete you have to train."

Question: What advice would you give young writers?

Isabel Allende: I would say, write.  If you want to do rnsports, you train, every day.  If you want to compete you have to train,rn and nobody sees the training, and nobody cares much about the training,rn but if you don’t do it you’re not prepared for the competition to play rnthe game.  The same as a writer.  You have to write every day and rntrain.  For every good page you would have written 20 pages that end up rnin the trash.  That doesn’t matter, that’s your training.
