“U.S. policymakers should find every available means over the next decade to ensure that American economic and military power remains indispensable to China’s rise.” Ian Bremmer says since the U.S. cannot prevent the rise of China, it should make China rely on American assets: “If China and America are to coexist with a minimum of conflict in 2020, U.S. policymakers should separate the positive-sum and zero-sum elements of the relationship. Where the two sides’ interests coincide, U.S. officials should work to ensure that American economic power, political influence, and military might remain as valuable as possible for the next stage of China’s development.”
